About the artist
Ahu Didem Sever
Ordinary Was Never the Plan.
AND ICONIC is the creative universe of Ahu Didem Sever — a contemporary artist and designer whose work moves between classical references, pop culture, bold colour and an instinctive refusal to blend in.
Art was never something Ahu Didem Sever simply discovered. It was part of the world she grew up in.
Raised in a family surrounded by creativity, her mother was a fashion designer and textile illustrator, her aunt a painter, and her grandfather a poet and writer. Her own artistic journey began at the age of nine with ceramic modelling, followed over the years by painting, relief, stained glass, traditional tile art and a continuing exploration of different creative disciplines.

Alongside traditional artistic techniques, Sever developed advanced technical expertise in professional spray-gun painting, airbrush techniques and chrome finishing. This hands-on knowledge allows her to carry out the colour and surface treatments of her sculptures as an integral part of her own creative process, without relying on external painting studios. From the initial idea to the final surface detail, the visual character of each piece remains directly in the artist’s hands.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Hacettepe University and later earned her master’s degree from Metropolitan College of New York. After experiencing corporate life, the creative instinct that had followed her since childhood became impossible to ignore. Art gradually moved from being a constant presence in her life to becoming its centre.
AND ICONIC grew from that decision.

Designed with attitude. Finished with soul.
At the exhibition
More than a studio motto, it defines Sever’s approach to creating.
She has little interest in following predetermined formulas. She is more curious about what exists just outside them — the unexpected detail, the deliberate disruption, the moment when something becomes more interesting because it refuses to behave exactly as expected.
If there is a paint drip, it may need to escape precisely where it was never supposed to.
Because difference, in her world, is not something to correct. It is where character begins.
Her work brings together the timeless language of classical sculpture with the freedom of contemporary culture: mythology meets graffiti, polished chrome meets spontaneous brushwork, historical forms collide with vivid colour and irreverent details.
Venus, Apollo and Hercules are reimagined with a contemporary attitude, while the AND ICONIC universe continues to expand through original contemporary sculptures and collectible characters created entirely within Sever’s own visual world.

She is particularly drawn to artists who challenge the structures surrounding art. Banksy’s provocative “Copyright is for losers” attitude resonates with her not as something to imitate, but as a reminder that an artist’s point of view becomes strongest when it is truly their own.
Art that refuses to blend in.
Sever does not pick up a brush to make something fit comfortably into a room, a trend or an accepted definition of beauty. She is interested in what happens outside the expected frame.
Every AND ICONIC sculpture begins with an idea and evolves through form, colour, material and surface. In Ahu Didem Sever’s atelier in Ayvalık, Türkiye, each piece is individually hand-finished. Layers of paint, expressive drips, graffiti gestures, reflective chrome and subtle hand-applied variations give every sculpture its own identity.
For Sever, being iconic has never meant being perfect.
It means having the courage to be different.
That philosophy extends beyond the studio into the way she approaches style, creativity and life itself.
